The Spa Valley Railway is a great choice for your special event or occasion. From a private reserved compartment to an entire special train, with or without catering, there are many ways to make your day an unforgettable experience.
Please note that we are not able to accommodate private charter trains in November or December of each year. We do, however, operate THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride in November & December.
Special Charter Trains
We can offer private trains after our scheduled passenger services or on days when our services are otherwise not running. Alternatively, you can hire a carriage on a scheduled service; minimum hire charges start at £1,000 per day for non-commercial hire or £3,000 per day for commercial hire (filming or television).
During special events, we cannot accommodate private hires.

As a guide, if you wish to charter a whole steam train—including the bar and buffet car—on a day when we are not already operating, prices start at £5,000 for four return trips from Tunbridge Wells West to Groombridge or £6,500 for up to five return trips from Tunbridge Wells West to Eridge. This would be for a period of trains running between 10:00 and 16:30, or an equivalent time period starting later.
The price will vary depending on the number of journeys undertaken and the number of guests travelling; however, due to the increasing cost of operating steam and heritage diesel trains, we are unable to offer discounts.

Then look no further than the Spa Valley Railway. While we can’t offer a full wedding package (unfortunately, we don’t have a licensed area for wedding ceremonies), we can provide a variety of options to help you still enjoy your special day.
We can offer a variety of options, such as Brunch, Lunch, Afternoon Tea or Evening Dining.

What can we offer?
- Travel to your ceremony if you’re getting married at one of the locations we stop at.
- Travel from your ceremony to a reception at one of the locations we stop at.
- Wedding breakfast on a steam and/or diesel hauled train for up to 120 guests – this can either be a three course meal or buffet.
- Daytime or evening receptions, including buffets, on our train for up to 170 guests.
- Our bar cars sell beer, cider, wines, champagne, spirits and soft drinks.
- Private hire of the railway and steam or diesel train on a day we aren’t open.
- Travel from any of our stations.
When can we accommodate bookings?
Our steam and diesel trains operate from February to October, and we can usually accommodate bookings on any Green timetabled day. Unfortunately, bookings are not available on special event days due to the nature of the services we provide. Booking enquiries must be sent with at least 3 months’ notice to enable us to resource volunteers to operate the trains.
We can also offer private hire trains on dates when there is no colour/no normal services on our timetable. The price for private hire starts at £5,000 for a steam train with bar car ‘Kate’. We are unable to reduce this cost.

- £7.00 per person for travel on a timetabled train of your choice to your wedding ceremony from Tunbridge Wells West or Groombridge to High Rocks.
- £5,000 for the private hire of a steam engine and four carriages, including the bar car ‘Kate’, on a day we aren’t already open between 10:00 and 16:30. This would give you four return journey’s between Tunbridge Wells West and Groombridge based on our Yellow timetable.
- £6,500 for the private hire of a steam engine and four carriages, including the bar car ‘Kate’, on a day we aren’t already open between 10:00 and 16:30. This would give you five return journey’s between Tunbridge Wells West and Eridge based on our Green timetable.
This is the basic price for a private hire; it will also be subject to an increase depending on the number of journeys you wish to take, and does not take into account the number of people you want to travel with.
