Join us for a sponsored walk to raise money for the replacement of Broom Lane Bridge!
We’re arranging another opportunity for you to walk the line, this time to see our new bridge over Broom Lane!
Between 23rd February and 2nd April, the Spa Valley Railway is undertaking one of the biggest infrastructure projects to date, replacing Broom Lane Bridge.
We are still fundraising to complete the project, which will be repaid over a period after the installation. We’d love to welcome you on another walk of the line and be the first people to walk over our brand new bridge!
Meet at Tunbridge Wells West from 10:00 am on Sunday, 29th March, and we will set off at 10:30 am (note the later start time than previously advertised).
This sponsored walk is shorter than the last; we will walk to Broom Lane Bridge, where you can see the new structure, hopefully cross it, and then return on foot to Tunbridge Wells West, a distance of around 4 miles. Trains won’t be able to cross the bridge during this event as there will be no track laid.
Every penny raised from this walk will go straight towards the Broom Lane Bridge replacement, reducing the demands on our daily operations.
Broom Lane Bridge
We couldn't afford to wait any longer to replace this bridge. If we hadn't decided to replace it, the costs would have continued to rise, and inevitably, we wouldn't have been able to cross the original bridge.
A decision taken in October 2025 by the Spa Valley Railway's management, following very careful consideration, is that we have to replace the bridge.
Funds from our day-to-day activities and from the Society will help cover a significant portion of the work, but we still need your help. This walk will help to reduce the demands placed on our bank account.
Where will I be walking?
The total distance is approximately 4 miles, slightly shorter than our 2025 walk.
What shoud I wear?
You must wear suitable shoes for walking on rough underfoot terrain; it is a railway after all, and the conditions include ballast, rocks, vegetation, slippery surfaces, and railway tracks.
Children and dogs are welcome, but they must be able to walk over rough underfoot terrain for the entire distance. The only opportunity to leave the railway is at our designated access points of Tunbridge Wells West or High Rocks.
